Pecorino 2018 Trabocchetto Talamonti 75cl, White
This white wine is made from 100% Pecorino grapes, a native grape variety from the Colline Pescaresi in Abruzzo. The wine has received more awards than any other wine in this region. The nose is complex and has plenty of tropical fruit, pears, apricot and peach with a hint of grapefruit. The palate is dry, bright and fresh, medium bodied with a very good structure and balance. It has a rich concentration of fruit flavours on the palate. The finish is long and intense with some lovely grassy flavours at the end.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2019 Valvona & Crolla 75cl, Red
This very drinkable, easy wine has spicy aromas and hints of chocolate. The dominant flavour however, on both the nose and palate, is the copious red berry fruit. This wine boasts good structure, soft tannins and a reassuring earthy balance. Delicious with salami, cured hams and roasted red meats and vegetables, typical of the Abruzzo region.
Passerina 2019 Fazi-Battaglia 75cl, White
Made from the passerina grape, an ancient grape variety from Marche. The name comes from the word Passera/Passero which is Italian for "sparrow", the bird known to Marche vine growers for its voracious appetite for ripe Passerina grapes! The majority of Passerina vines are planted in the Piceno province. This wine has a straw-yellow colour. It opens on the nose with hints of peach and apricot, then spicy notes of hay and white pepper. The palate is fresh with a touch of minerality but is soft with an almost creamy texture on the tongue. It is fresh and tangy with a long fruity finish.
Lacrima di Morro D'Alba 2019 Cantine Belisario 75cl, Red
Lacrima is a dark-skinned grape variety native to Italy's Marche region. Used almost exclusively in the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC wines. The word lacrima means teardrop in Italian and is probably a reference to the fact that the berries tend to split, dripping juice down the outside of the bunch. Intense, rose, geranium and violet perfumes are followed by notes of myrtle and cinnamon. Medium bodied and almost dry whilst fresh and fruity on the palate with balsamic hints. Ideally to be drunk slightly chilled – say 30 minutes in a refrigerator prior to opening. Great on a warm day with al fresco dining.
Frascati Superiore 2019 Casale Marchese 75cl White
Frascati DOCG Superiore from Casale Marchese has a straw-yellow colour, with aromas of tropical fruit and slightly herbaceous floral nuances; on the palate it is sapid and full-bodied, with a soft, elegant and enveloping aftertaste. Excellent as an aperitif or with fish. Also perfect with two great central Italian dishes, Spaghettoni Carbonara or Linguine All’Amatriciana! Made from typical Lazio white grapes: mainly Malvasia del Lazio and Malvasia di Candia plus a small percentage of Trebbiano Toscana and Bellone. Fermented in s/s for around 6 months.
Cesanese Rubillo 2019 Pallavicini 75cl Red
Made 100% from an exciting red grape only found in Lazio called Cesanese. This wine is ruby red in colour, with excellent intensity and violet hints. On the nose, there are perfumes of ripe red fruits and spice. On the palate, it is ripe, rounded and oh so fresh, with spiced blackberry and raspberry characters. It is a great all-round red. Drink at room temperature or slightly chilled, as an aperitif or with tomato sugo pasta or any main course of red or white meat or roasted vegetables.
