Over the years, as the volume of cars coming into the city has increased, the perception has been that it is difficult to find a parking space in the city centre and that it is expensive. With the creation of so many more 4 hour parking bays between Monday and Friday, in the streets adjacent to Valvona & Crolla, for 70p per hour, our customers can come to us between 8.30am and 5.30pm and find a parking space far more easily than ever before.

Valvona & Crolla is Scotland's longest established independent family specialist food shop and wine merchant, run by the descendants of the founders.

Benedetto Valvona, an Italian immigrant from the Cassino area in central Italy, started selling Italian food and wine in the Old Town of Edinburgh in the 1890s. He handed over to his son Raffaele Valvona in the early 1900s and established a company called R. Valvona & Co. When Alfonso Crolla, grandfather of the current management, joined the business in 1934, Valvona & Crolla Limited was established at its present address on the edge of Edinburgh's New Town.

Since its early days the company has grown constantly and seen many changes, both to its size and structure. We now have one of the best selections of quality food and wine in the United Kingdom. We offer a personal service to our Scottish customers who buy from our shop and our UK-wide customers via mail order. We are committed to giving our online customers the same distinctive service and choice of our tantalising products.

Our intrinsic knowledge of food and wine has been handed down to us from our peasant forebears over hundreds of years. We source all our products from small, artisan producers and farmers, who, like us, are committed to selling pure, flavoursome produce which both excites and nourishes. We bake our own bread. We import our fresh vegetables direct from the market in Milano, Italy. Our kitchens produce home-made food to our own recipes. We regularly taste and evaluate wines to ensure that our list is not static but is always exciting with new products and vintages as well as older, mature wines. Our malt whisky selection is one of the best in Scotland.
